Ms. Mompreneur 2012 Amanita ThomasEducation: Drexel University, B.S. Computer Information Systems. Pfeiffer University, MHA (Masters of Health Administration). The Etiquette & Leadership Institute, Certified Etiquette & Dining Consultant.Platform Issue: To give exposure and recognition to mothers who balance and maintain a home life, while being an entrepreneur. To encourage moms that may be indecisive about starting a business and balancing motherhood, to start turning their passions into productive business models.Career Accomplishments: Since I was certified by the Etiquette & Leadership Institute, so much has opened up for me with opportunities and partnerships. Some of these accomplishments have been television interviews (locally) and radio interviews (nationally) and speaking engagements and consulting opportunities from various organizations and corporations. A partial list of my clients is located at www.perfectlypolishedNC.com. But I can say a memorable accomplishment was giving a dining tutorial to a young man on the hit show MTV Made. Also, while not a designated career, the accomplishments that I have witnessed with my daughter’s successes is immeasurable. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? If I could live anywhere in the world, I would have to split my time seasonally. Therefore during the Spring/Summer, I would be at The Ritz Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation (Greensboro, GA) and during the Fall/Winter, The Grove Park Inn (Asheville, NC).If you could meet anyone in the world, who would they be? If I could meet anyone in the world, it would be torn between Oprah Winfrey, Angelina Jolie Voight, and Michelle Obama. And since I am clearly torn with picking just one person, I would have to send special invites for a Sunday afternoon of tea at The Ritz Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation (Greensboro, GA) for discussions and relaxation.Best advice you have ever been given: How do I define success? Let me tell you, money's pretty nice. But having a lot of money does not automatically make you a successful person. What you want is money and meaning. You want your work to be meaningful, because meaning is what brings the real richness to your life. -Oprah Winfrey, Stanford Commencement Address, 2008Who is your role model and why? Condoleeza Rice, former U.S. Secretary of State & National Security Advisor. Ms. Rice embodies the concepts of change management, leadership, strategy, innovation and in some sense competition. Her leadership skills speak to her success in various academic roles at Stanford University, as well as serving this country as a Secretary of State and National Security Advisor. I find that one of the skills she has perfected while in these roles is strategy. Being very conscious of the decisions and the thought logic behind all of her choices makes her very calculating and I want to be that way or at least better at it. And these are skill sets that I desire as a mom and an entrepreneur, not only for myself, but for all moms. The innovation that she has had to endure while in her respective roles has kept her a step ahead. And innovation is what we all need in order to grow as mothers and business women.Something interesting about you: I have a secret desire to serve my country by being a Special Agent for the CIA or the FBI. Whoever will have me. I am sure that is still a possibility.Three words that describe you best: Resilient, Resourceful and Optimistic.Favorite Book(s): This is hard to choose because my library is filled with great Business/Leadership material. So I will say any book by the following authors: Dale Carnegie , Napoleon Hill, and Anthony Robbins. These authors empower my home and my business, which will lead to my ultimate success. And Mompreneurs, such asPatricia Cobe & Ellen H. Parlapiano are a staple in my library.Favorite TV Show: You cannot find me on Thursday nights because Grey’s Anatomy has my full attention, with all the drama going on in the hospital walls. And I love Judge Judy as well.Favorite Food: Anything Jamaican, especially curry chicken with rice and peas and carrot juice made from scratch. Such food sends me back to my 2ndchildhood home in Jamaica with my mom and grandmother. Mmm Mmm Good!Favorite Sport: If only Yoga could be a sport for me to claim. But it’s not, so synchronized swimming would be my favorite sport to watch. The coordination and grace exhibited speaks for itself.
